A lot of people assume that playing pickleball is an extremely expensive sport. In fact, it’s pretty affordable once you consider the equipment required. We actually spent a little over $60 to purchase the Head Extreme Elite Fiberglass Pickleball Paddle and were happy with the results.

The pickleball paddle looks great and feels even better. The fiberglass design felt similar to the paddles that we’ve seen in tournaments, and we were surprised that they were so lightweight and easy to swing.

Our favorite feature is the Ergo Grip, which kept our hands in place while we hit the ball. We definitely recommend that you take the time to properly size the grip before using it on the court.

Made with a durable fiberglass construction, the Head Extreme Elite Fiberglass Pickleball Paddle held up well when we tested it. We hit a few volleys, threw a few overhead shots, and were impressed with its performance.

Overall, we think that it’s one of the best pickleball paddles for the money, especially since it costs only $60.

The JOOLA Essentials Performance Pickleball Paddle features advanced engineering, reinforced fiberglass layers, and Response Polypropylene Honeycomb core, which create an aerodynamic paddle with extra pop.

We’re also impressed by the improved edge guard protection, which enhances the solidity of the paddle core and helps ensure that the surface won’t delaminate.

Plus, this pickleball paddle has an oversized grip for better comfort and reduced moisture from the surface of the handle. Overall, the JOOLA Essentials Performance Pickleball Paddle is a great performance pickleball racquet that won’t break the bank.

  • IMPROVE YOUR GAME: Pick a paddle suited to your skill level to boost your play on the court
  • ARAMID HONEYCOMB CORE: A blend of power and control benefits beginners and experienced players alike

Last year, we reviewed the GAMMA Fusion 1.0 pickleball paddle and were impressed with the quality and durability. This year, we have not one, but two, GAMMA Fusion 2.0 paddles to test out.

The GAMMA Fusion 2.0 Paddle is an under $60 pickleball paddle with a fiberglass face. The fiberglass face offers speed and powerful, consistent hits on the volley. We really liked how easy it was to control the paddle, and we think that this paddle would be best suited to beginners or players with slower shots.

We also found that this paddle has a larger sweet spot than most paddles we’ve seen, which would help players with slower shots get the ball on the court. The lightweight design also meant that we could play for longer without getting fatigued.

Overall, we think that the GAMMA Fusion 2.0 Pickleball Paddle is a great paddle for those on a budget. If you prefer a heavier paddle that weighs less and will give you better control over the volley, we would recommend looking elsewhere.

What To Consider Before Buying a Pickleball Paddle Under a $60 Budget?

Weight

Pickleball paddles range from 160g (5.6 oz) to 200g (7.1 oz). The choice of paddle weight will depend on the player’s strength, power, and playing style. Typically, heavier paddles can offer more control and serve as a good fit for new players. Meanwhile, lighter paddles are more suitable for experienced players with a fast swing.

Size

As with any type of paddle, it’s important to choose the correct size. The most common sizes are listed below.

  • Length: 15 inches
  • Width: 8 inches

A larger surface area provides more power through more control for aggressive players as well as those who like to hit the ball hard.

  • Length: 15 inches
  • Width: 7-1/2 inches

Less surface area means less power for more control and finesse shots. It’s a good fit for aggressive and strong players who like to play fast and keep their opponents off balance.

  • Length: 14-1/2 inches
  • Width: 7 inches

Ideal for all-around play and players who like to mix up their shots.

  • Length: 14 inches
  • Width: 6-1/4 to 6-3/8 inches

It is similar to the standard paddle but slightly smaller and lighter — suitable for attackers and any player looking to catch their opponent off guard.

There are also other variations on the standard pickleball paddle, such as the extra-long model (17 inches long), which provides more reach and power for aggressive players. The kids’ version (under 13 years old) is around 14 inches long and weighs closer to 160g.

Grip

Pickleball grips are available in standard or oversized and may or may not include a built-in wrist support strap. Most of the products below have standard-size grips with an adjustable bridge to customize the fit, while others come with oversized grips that provide more comfort for players who prefer a larger grip.

Construction

The majority of pickleball paddles are generally made from three different materials:

  • Carbon-fiber or carbon-graphite
  • Wood (usually maple)
  • Polypropylene

Carbon-fiber and carbon-graphite models provide the most power, speed, and consistency. However, they are also heavier and more expensive.

Wood paddles provide a nice soft touch, offer good vibration dampening, and can be personalized with different finishes. While they lack some power compared to other materials, it’s a great compromise for those looking to take their game up a notch without breaking the bank.

Polypropylene models have the lowest cost, making them a popular choice for beginners. They are lightweight and inexpensive, ideal for casual players or families with young children.

Price

Pickleball paddles are generally priced under $60. Of course, there are more expensive models for advanced players or those who want a high-tech model with multiple features. However, to get started playing, you can’t go wrong with any of the following affordable options that offer good quality and performance without breaking the bank.
